How do you wear hijab as an MRI tech? No magnets or pins allowed

anonymous·Aug 24, 2026·12 replies

I am training as an MRI tech and absolutely no metal is allowed near the machine, so magnets and pins are out. How do you keep a hijab secure for a full shift with zero metal?

This is exactly what instant hijabs are built for. A slip-on style with the cap sewn in and no metal at all stays put through a whole shift, and you are not fiddling with pins between patients. Plenty of nurses and techs in here swear by them for the no-metal rule. The best no-slip instant hijabs list flags which are fully metal-free.

Tie-back undercap you can actually tighten, then a snug wrap tucked into itself, no pins needed. That got me through nursing placements on metal-free wards.

Sport hijabs are a secret weapon for this. One-piece, pull-on, designed to not move at all and zero metal. I wear one for my shifts.
